Canon EOS 1100D User Manual / Guide
Canon EOS 1100D Review - The Canon EOS 1100D (Digital Rebel T3) is a popular entry-level DSLR camera. This 4.5 million price camera plus the EF-S 18-55mm IS kit lens is the successor to the successful sales of the EOS 1000D in the past, with the main segmentation being budget-minded people looking for a simple, good yet affordable camera. The EOS 1100D is presented to be competitors such as the Nikon D3100, Pentax K-r and the Sony A390.
Let's take a look at what this basic DSLR has to offer:
- 12 MP CMOS sensor
- Digic IV processor
- 720p HD movie recording capabilities
- metering capability with 63 zones (focus, color and luminance)
- using the AF module with 9 points (one in the middle cross type)
- reached ISO 6400
- 3 fps burst speed
- 2.7-inch LCD, 230 thousand pixel resolution
- HDMI out
- sold with the 18-55mm IS mark II kit lens
The body of the EOS 1100D is made of plastic material with a surface that is too smooth without texture, which looks a bit cheap. The grip will also feel a little small, especially for people with big hands like me, but maybe it will feel right if the grip is women.
The overall design of the 1100D is relatively typical of a beginner EOS with the top area containing an ON-OFF button, a rotary wheel for adjusting the exposure, one mode dial and one button for firing the flash. Everything is concentrated on the right so that it is easily accessible to the right index finger. The mode dial itself is composed of manual exposure such as P, TV, AV, M and A-DEP, as well as various scene modes such as flash off, Creative Auto, Portrait, Landscape and Movie. The green box is AUTO which is completely automatic including the ISO and flash settings. The hot shoe flash is in the middle and is flanked by a built-in flash that supports E TTL-II.
On the front there is a metal mount for attaching the lens, with two color dots namely white (for EF-S lenses) and red (for EF lenses). So the EOS 1100D is compatible with any Canon lens, be it EF or EF-S. There is no dust cleaning system in the EOS 1100D, to clean the dust you need to enter the menu to lift the mirror and clean the dust manually. Next to the lens mount is a light to reduce red-eye due to flash exposure, and a mono microphone above the EOS 1100D logo which functions to record sound during movie mode.
The EOS 1100D is equipped with the EF-S 18-55mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS kit lens. The lens with this plastic mount has a filter diameter of 58mm and is equipped with a vibration damper (stabilizer). On the left there are two levers, namely the Auto or Manual focus (AF-MF) lever and another lever to activate the stabilizer. This kit lens will have a focal equivalent of 29-88mm which is sufficient for everyday needs. The manual focus ring is at the very front of the lens and rotates when the camera is looking for focus, typical of cheap kit lenses in general, in short, this lens is not comfortable to use for manual focus.
On the back, where the various important buttons and LCD screen are, are arranged quite nicely. On the EOS 1100D there is an important button for accessing the quick menu which is the 'Q' button (Quick Menu) and there is also a button with a red dot for Live view (which also functions to start and end video recording). The up arrow key also functions for shortcuts to change ISO, the right arrow key for switching AF modes, the down arrow key for switching WB options and the left arrow key for various drive mode options. This is a big benefit considering that the EOS 1100D is actually aimed at beginners. The optical viewfinder on the EOS 1100D has 95% coverage and 0.8 times magnification, which is bright enough to see. There is a small diopter adjustment wheel to adjust the viewfinder focus for those with glasses.
At the bottom is a metal tripod mount that is positioned parallel to the lens. There is also information about the serial number and the inscription that this camera was made in Taiwan. The placement of the LP-E10 battery and memory card is on the bottom with the same door, while the side door when opened will reveal a port for the remote, HDMI port and USB port.
In closing, my impression of this camera is quite satisfying, especially in terms of photo quality and high ISO. Supported by a capable 12 MP CMOS sensor and Digic 4, the matter of photo results is certainly not in doubt. For the best photo results, just look for a better lens, shoot using RAW or just maximize the Picture Style. With the current price of 4.5 million, a modern DSLR with an IS kit lens, can HD movies and has 9 AF points is certainly a best buy.
Moreover, a variety of EF, EF-S and 3rd party brands (Sigma, Tokina, etc.) with a Canon mount can all be used without worrying about auto focus compatibility issues. The weak points of this camera are in things that are not directly related to the resulting photo, for example the body material is not as solid as the EOS above, the LCD screen is less large and lacks detail and there are several features that are removed (spot metering, anti-dust, manual exposure. when recording video). In addition, this camera burst is only 3 fps which is still not fast enough.
This camera is suitable for you who are beginners, are learning photography, just for family photos / videos, just a hobby, are not satisfied with the results of a small sensor camera photo, or who need a camera for photography courses.
However, this camera is not suitable for those of you who are enthusiasts (seriously pursuing photography for the profession), often shoot outdoors with erratic weather (rain, dust, etc.), often shoot sports / action / journalists, make DSLRs to make commercial video clips, need a lot of effects. digital on the camera, or who often shoot with ISO above 6400. This tiny starter camera can be purchased for $356.17.
