Canon EOS M200 Review, Specs, with Manuals PDF

Canon EOS M200 Review - Compared to its predecessor, the Canon EOS M200 is capable of recording video up to 4K resolution and supports vertical video recording. The EOS M200 still relies on a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, but the performance of the Dual Pixel AF system has improved, has more focus points (143 AF areas), is equipped with Eye Detection AF, and is powered by the latest Digic 8 image processor. Canon EOS M200 in full.

Canon EOS M200 Design

The shape of the Canon EOS M200 is similar to its predecessor, with a 3-inch screen that can be folded 180 degrees upwards and a flash with a pop up mechanism. Very simple with a compact body and easy controls. This camera is still without a viewfinder, has no hot shoe, or an external microphone port. Canon has only slightly made changes, namely rearranging the video recording button. On the M100, it was located at the top and is now moved to the back of the camera to replace the WiFi button which is right next to the menu button.

The body is very compact with dimensions of 108x67x35 mm and weighs 299 grams, even paired with the 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 kit lens, the display of the EOS M200 still looks a bit 'slammed'. May be suitable when paired with the EF-M 22mm f / 2 STM pancake lens.

The build quality itself is very good, the main body construction is made of metal with polycarbonate plastic in several parts and feels very solid in the hand. Unfortunately, the EOS M200 does not have a grip at all for our hands to grip the camera.

As for the attributes, on the top side is the shutter button along with the only dial or control wheel. Then, there is the power button along with the shooting mode button, which has only three options, namely auto mode, photo mode, and video mode. Also, flash with a pop up mechanism on the top left.

On the back, the 3-inch screen can only be pulled up to 180 degrees which is useful for low-angle shooting and vlogging. Then, there is the menu button, video recorder button, four-way navigation where the upper button is for exposure compensation or delete, the bottom is for info, the right side is for flash settings, and the left is for AE lock or FE lock. In the middle there is a Quick Controll button and below it is a playback button.

The right side is empty, the microUSB port is not yet Type-C, micro HDMI, and an SD card slot is on the left side. The battery slot in the lower area uses the LP-E12 type which according to the CIPA rating is capable of presenting 315 shots. Charging is still using the special charger adapter that comes with it.

Performance

The Canon EOS M200 carries a 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a Dual Pixel autofocus system and has more focus points from 49 to 143. Complete with face and eye detection features that work quickly and consistently lock moving objects.

This camera relies on the latest Digic 8 image processor which raises overall camera performance. Capable of shooting 6.1fps (4fps with AF) continuous shooting and supports video recording up to 4K resolution. Apart from its simple design and position as an entry-level camera, the image quality cannot be doubted. Shots can be saved in JPEG, Raw, or CRaw formats in 3: 2, 4: 3, 16: 9, and 1: 1 aspect ratios.

For initial use, in my experience the EF-M 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens which is equivalent to 24-72mm at 35mm is quite capable and covers many usage scenarios. On the occasion of this Canon EOS M200 review, I also used the EF-M 55-200mm f / 4.5-6.3 IS STM lens which is equivalent to 88-320mm at 35mm, keep in mind that the APS-C sensor used by Canon has a crop factor of 1.6x. .

This telephoto zoom lens allows us to capture objects that are very far away. However, I would recommend you have a second lens with a fixed focal length (fixed lens) such as the Canon EF-M 32mm F1.4 STM, Canon EF-M 28mm F3.5 Macro IS STM, or a trio of 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm F1 lenses. .4 from Sigma for use in low light conditions and gets beautiful bokeh.

This camera is equipped with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, so the shots can easily be transferred to a smartphone via the Canon Camera Connect application. Uniquely the Bluetooth connection on the EOS M200 can maintain a connection with a smartphone even when the camera is turned off. So, there's no need to reconnect every time you open the app.

A reliable Dual Pixel autofocus system, complete with Eye Detection AF and a 3-inch screen that can be folded 180 degrees forward, of course we can create a compact vlogging setup with the Canon EOS M200. This camera also supports video in a vertical position.

Install a mini tripod and for audio we can use the clip-on connected to the recorder application on a smartphone. Is it a hassle to use separate audio? Not at all, if the video is edited using Adobe Premiere Pro, there is a synchronize feature that will automatically equalize the rhythm of the sound.

On the NTSC system, the camera can record 4K video at 23.98fps, FHD 29.97fps, FHD 59.94fps, HD 59.94fps, and slow motion HD 119.9fps. While on the PAL system, the EOS M200 can record 4K 25fps, FHD 25fps, FHD 50fps, HD 50fps, and HD 100fps videos.

The sad thing is that we have to compromise with a 1.7x crop when using 4K video. So it's hard to get wide-angle with a kit lens. For the A-Roll, usually the FHD resolution is enough, another option can invest in buying a Canon EF-M 11-22mm f / 4-5.6 IS STM lens.

Ease of use is one of the main elements offered by the Canon EOS M200. This camera has a user-friendly control system and a compact body that is very easy to carry around. The camera is simple and appears low profile. However, the built-in 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor ensures you get quality photos, complete with 4K video recording capabilities.

The EOS M200 is set to debut with a retail toll of $549 with the EF 15-45mm kit lens included in the assemblage. The EOS M100 was already quite inexpensive but it module certainly uprise doctor in price equal more now that its issue is on the activity. You can currently experience it for around $450 US with the aforementioned kit lense.

The Canon EOS M200 is suitable for those of you who are really looking for a small and casual camera, not to be used as the main machine for creating content.
