Canon EOS 200D II Review - Recently, Canon has refreshed their line of entry-level DSLRs with the EOS 200D mark II. Through the EOS R (full frame) and EOS M (APS-C) systems, Canon is focusing on working on their mirrorless camera line while continuing to take care of its DSLR line. This transition from DSLR to mirrorless is indeed necessary, in line with technological developments. The dimensions are more compact and have a modern look, so what does the EOS 200D II offer? Design

Looks old, but the performance is insane!

 

The old-fashioned look with big grips and the protruding 'hump' gives a deep impression to certain circles. I'm in it and feel a nostalgic sensation, I also tend to use the optical viewfinder. The EOS 200D II packs a Live View feature with a fully articulated mechanism touch screen, the screen can be pulled out and rotated 180 degrees facing forward. More freedom to compose and very useful when vlogging.

This camera weighs 654 grams, with the EF-S 18-55mm f / 4-5.6 IS STM kit lens. The aperture is not constant, the maximum aperture is f / 4 at a focal length of 18mm and f / 5.6 at 55mm. For its build quality, the EOS 200D II has a body made of almost all plastic construction. Admittedly it feels less premium, but on the bright side, it's quite light. The unit I reviewed is silver which looks quite striking, with brown grips. The grip is rubber coated for a tight grip.

The Canon EOS 200D II is also called the EOS 250D in a number of countries, this camera carries a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system and a new DIGIC 8 processor. The DIGIC 8 processor is a very important update here. Apart from ensuring the camera's performance runs smoothly, it also contributes greatly to the features it offers.

You name it, Eye Detection AF in Live View, the ability to shoot 5 fps continuously, 25fps 4K video recording, and a very impressive battery life. The usable ISO range is quite wide, from 100 to 25,600 (expandable to 51,200) which makes it possible to shoot in a variety of lighting conditions.

I am quite impressed with the versatility of the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f / 4-5.6 IS STM kit lens, which is sufficient for various photography activities. The size of this lens is quite compact, equipped with a stabilizer lever and focus mode. Image stabilization support is of course very useful when using a low shutter speed to suppress the ISO value so that the results remain sharp.

For the first time, features such as Creative Assist and Smooth Skin were immersed in the EOS DSLR to help produce the desired effect. Thanks to the wireless connection, we can easily access photos of the EOS 200D II and send them to a smartphone.

This camera is equipped with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, we can connect the camera and smartphone via the Canon Camera Connect application. If necessary, we can set it so that each shot is transferred directly to the smartphone.

How about the video recording capabilities? Not bad, this camera is capable of recording 4K video at 30fps with a 1.7x crop and 1080p up to 60fps. It is sufficient for the purposes of making videos on YouTube, even without the support of a picture profile.

Verdict

In the entry-level segment, DSLR cameras may be a little overwhelmed by mirrorless cameras. The EOS 200D II itself has to deal directly with its brother, the EOS M50, not to mention a number of competitors in its class.

In my opinion, this camera is ideal for those of you who have an interest in learning photography. The EOS 200D II is capable of providing excellent photo quality and the built-in lens covers many photographic needs. Regarding video recording, 4K video quality and a 3.5mm microphone port are also owned even without picture profile support.
